Expressing obligation
Obligation is to say what it is necessary. Expressing obligation can be done by using "should". It can be used for present, future, and for the past when preceded by verb in past tense. The use of modal "should" in expressing obligation is divided into 3 types:
a. Should + present infinitive
It can be used to express the subject'obligation on duty.
Contoh : you should come early to the class
b. Should + continuous
It is used to express the idea that the subject is not fulfilling his obligations or he/ she is acting foolishly, not acting sensibly and prudently
Contoh : the nan should be wearing helmet
c. Should + perfect
This rule is used to express an unfulfilled obligation or sensible action that was neglected. In negative sentence. It expresses a wrong or foolish action in past.
Contoh : you should have studied math harder.
