Text 3
The moon does not have its own lights, but shines because its surface reflects the sun’s rays. A total lunar eclipse occurs when the earth’s shadow blocks all the sun’s light from directly reaching the moon’s surface.
Eclipses of the moon happen when the sun, the earth and moon are aligned to form an almost or exact straight line. The technical term for this is syzygy, which comes from the Greek word for being paired together.
During a total lunar eclipse, the sun, the earth and moon form a straight line. The earth blocked any direct sunlight from reaching the moon. The sun is behind the earth, so the sun’s light casts the earth’s shadow on the moon. This shadow covers the entire moon and causes a total lunar eclipse.
For a lunar eclipse to occur, the sun, earth, and moon must be roughly aligned in a straight line. if the sun, earth, and moon do not align, the earth cannot cast a shadow on the moon’s surface and an eclipse cannot happen.
When the sun, earth, and moon are not perfectly aligned, only the outer part of the earth’s shadow covers the moon, it is called a penumbral lunar eclipse. In a total lunar eclipse, the earth’s umbra completely covers the moon.
5.              What does the text talk about?

D.      the sun, earth, and moon form a straight line
E.       the earth cannot cast a shadow on the moon’s surface

7.             Based on the text we conclude that ....
A.      A total lunar eclipse occurs when the moon’s shade prevents all the sun’s light from direct reaching the earth’s surface.
B.      A total lunar eclipse occurs because we cannot see the moon as it is completely covered by the earth’s shadow
C.      A lunar eclipse occurs although the sun, earth, and moon are not aligned in a straight line
D.      A solar eclipse occurs when the moon absorbs the sun’s light which reaches its surface
E.       The moon only shines at night because its surface reflects stars’ rays

The Man Who Could Turn Back the Clock
Adapted from a story by Ralph Milne Farley
Once upon a time, there was a man who had the power to turn back the clock. Whenever he regretted something he had done or said, he could repeat the event in the light of the experience.
Now, one day, it happened that this man was out for a walk when it started to rain, so he took shelter in a barn. After a few minutes the man was joined by a very beautiful young lady and her dog, who were also seeking shelter. The downpour lasted about an hour.
The man went home to his wife and told her why he was late. Immediately, her wife was suspicious of her husband’s behaviour with the young lady. She questioned him about what had happened. The man replied in surprised and hurt voice: “Why? Nothing happened. I was a perfect gentleman. What do you expect? Especially when she had such a large dog with her.”
His wife was furious: “what? Only the dog stopped you?”
The man realized his mistake and immediately he turned the clock back a few minutes and tried the conversation again. This time when his wife expressed her suspicion, he said “it’s true the girl was very beautiful and she seemed to like me. But my deep love for you gave me strength to resist temptation.”
However, his wife was even more furious: “what? You wanted to kiss her? An immoral thought is a bad as an immoral deed.’
The man spent long time thinking. There must be some way to please his wife!
Finally he turned the clock back again a few minutes. Once more his wife asked how he had behaved with the young lady. But this time he replied: “What? She wasn’t beautiful, She was ugly! I am a man with a good taste, which is why I married you, my darling!”

I have neighbours who we would very much characterize as a poor family. In this family, the parents make their living by selling fried noodles on the side of the road when evening comes. Although they have many customers, because they sell very delicious noodles. I don’t think they earn enough money to live luxuriously.
